Village History Trail

Our first Village Trail leaflet is now available. Hopefully you will find the history notes about our village interesting and the self-guided walking tour enjoyable. Thanks, especially, to Simon for taking the lead on this and to David for his new drawings and design input.

Leaflets will be available to buy from various outlets around the village, with many thanks to Youlgrave Well Dressing for being willing to include our History Trail leaflet into their well dressing festivities. Any monies raised from the sale of Village Trail leaflets will go towards supporting further Youlgrave History Society projects in our wonderful village.

If you are a B&B or holiday cottage owner and wish to purchase a pack of leaflets to distribute to your guests then please contact me (see below) and we will be very happy to supply.

Village Archive

Progress towards making our Village History Archive a reality is continuing apace. In early May 12 of us attended two courses delivered by the Derbyshire Record Office. On the courses we learnt how best to go about identifying, recording and cataloguing material to be archived and also how to care for and store our collections. The day was great fun for all and really encouraged us. We all learnt a huge amount and agreed the training was very worthwhile. We are now endeavouring to put what we learnt into practice and to set up our own system of cataloguing and storage here in Youlgrave.

It is a source or great delight (and quite some measure of relief) that the Archivists at Derbyshire Record Office are very supportive of our Youlgrave Village Archive project. They have offered us their on-going assistance and professional expertise. I am very sure we will be calling on that expertise many times in the forthcoming months!

Join in

If you would like to find out more about our current and planned history projects in and around our village, or have an idea for a project you would like to suggest to us, please do make contact with me. You are all very welcome to join in at our meetings – we are a friendly and sociable group and you don’t need to have knowledge of history, just an interest in our village and locality to be involved. Hope to hear from you…
